I hope you have already read my previous post about which social media I deleted, if not you can read it here (Why I Deleted Some Social Media).
In this post I want to talk to you about the social media I chose to keep, why I kept them and how I use them. :)
We live in a world today that really we can not function fully without some sort of online presence. All of the bills we pay require automated payments or online accounts with all our info on them. Even to keep in touch with our family we have to have online accounts these days.
Now, I am not saying that it is absolutely necessary to have any social media accounts. There are plenty of people out there that don't have any. I am just saying that to make things easier for sharing photos with family usually they are on social media.
As I talked about in my previous post (Why I Deleted Some Social Media); I mentioned the platforms I deleted or would never use. I mainly stopped using the platforms because it was a huge waste of time. Also, I do have security concerns as well. (Nothing is safe these days lol).
So, now let's talk about what platforms I did keep and why....
I mostly kept: Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, Youtube for business reasons. I have to have some way of getting all my posts to your guys, right?! What has changed however is that I rarely post anything that is not business related. If it is a family event, hanging out with friends, or just down right personal I am not posting it. 1) I don't want the negative comments 2) my personal life does not really concern anyone else but me, my family and close friends.
I strongly encourage you to take on the same view as well. Studies have shown that one of the main reasons we post things on social media is to gain acceptance. Well, we (even me) need to find that acceptance within ourselves. Be confident in who you are and the people who love it will stay and the people who don't will leave.
Back to social media and business. I use facebook, google+ to share with you all the latest blogs and articles that make it onto the website. I use instagram to share pics that are related to the website. I use pinterest to gather awesome ideas from others as well as sharing my own DIY/crafty ideas from the website. Youtube is going to be a means of sharing webinars, classes, little videos with you pertaining to the content on the website. Lets face it, you follow me because you want to learn more about how you and your horse (hopefully your family as well) can live a healthy more natural life through natural remedies, herbs, and essential oils. I don't need to be sharing what I ate for breakfast, or what I was thinking while driving home from work. I want to share with you what is vitally important at the same I like my privacy too. (I assume you all enjoy your privacy as well? Am I right?)
(By the way, a little side note, social media is addicting. It really is. I am working on my slight addiction by turning off my wifi at home when I dont need to be on. I am turning off my phone as well at night and just plan keeping busy.)
So the next time you are on your social media platforms ask yourself: Why am I here? Am I here to stalk someone? (in that case get a life of your own and love it) Are you there to learn about the upcoming news? Are you there to connect with family and friends?
Whatever your reason keep these three things in mind: 1) Make sure you are there for positive reasons to learn and grown. 2) Be sure you limit your time daily and don't get sucked into the blackhole social media creates. 3) Be safe. No needs to know your entire life story or every thought you have. Things placed on social media are permanente to a certain extent.
That's all for now folks!
